AC Milan have not given up hope on catching Inter in the Serie A title race, according to the Rossoneri’s defender Fikayo Tomori.

Inter are six points clear of their city rivals at the top of the standings, and they also have a game in hand which will take place against Sassuolo next Wednesday.

Antonio Conte’s side are heavy favourites to win the club’s first league title since 2010, when Jose Mourinho led Inter to an historic treble.

But Tomori – who joined AC Milan on loan from Chelsea in January – hasn’t thrown in the towel just yet, telling Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday: “Inter have a big gap, but I don’t see why we shouldn’t believe right until the end.

“It would be an excellent achievement to get back into the UEFA Champions League, but as a player you need to keep thinking about the big target.

“We know we can do something special.”

Inter have the head-to-head advantage over AC Milan courtesy of their 3-0 win in February’s Derby della Madonnina, meaning they would remain in front if the sides finished level on points.

AC Milan won the first derby of the season back in October, before succumbing to a stoppage-time winner from Christian Eriksen in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals back in January.
