Valentino Lazaro could be set for a second chance under Antonio Conte at Inter, according to a report in the Italian media.

Calciomercato.com said Borussia Monchengladbach were unlikely to exercise their option to buy the Austrian on a permanent deal for €12-13 million in the summer.

Lazaro’s most likely future now is a return to Inter, where Conte remains a fan of the 25-year-old despite a difficult first season in Serie A.

Conte and Lazaro have been in contact on several occasions this season and Inter have no intention of selling the wing-back on the cheap.

Inter signed Lazaro for €20 million from Hertha BSC in the summer of 2019, but he struggled to settle in and spend the second half of last season on loan at Newcastle United.

He now seems likely to follow in the footsteps of Ivan Perisic, or rather return to Inter after a season-long loan in the Bundesliga.

Lazaro has struggled with physical problems at Borussia Monchengladbach and this is said to have made them ‘very perplexed’ about the idea of making his loan deal permanent.
