Inter’s performances in big games this season has played a crucial role in sending them clear at the top of Serie A, according to a report in the Italian media today.

The Nerazzurri struggled to impress against their fellow top-six rivals in matches last year, most notably picking up two comprehensive defeats against Juventus.

However, as per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, Antonio Conte’s side have picked up 18 points from 27 available so far this season, a much improved record.

Inter’s only defeat against a fellow top team came in their 2-1 loss against AC Milan back in October, a match when Conte had a few COVID-19 absences to deal with.

Performing well in head-to-head clashes was one of three key factors identified by the Milan-based paper behind Inter’s six-point lead at the top of the table.

The Nerazzurri have the league’s best attack with 65 goals scored in 27 games, while they are also showing great consistency with Conte’s men currently on an eight-game winning run.

Conte is out-performing Jose Mourinho in Serie A at the moment, boasting the league’s highest ever points-per-game average (2.26) for any coach who has taken charge of more than 30 games.

Inter have scored 20 goals and conceded just three so far in 2021.
