Sebastiano Esposito is disappointed not to be helping Inter in their Serie A title bid but remains confident he made the right choice for his career.

Inter sent the 18-year-old on loan to Serie B side SPAL on a season-long loan last summer, but Esposito switched to Venezia for the second half of the campaign after struggling to settle in Ferrara.

The forward received some global recognition this week when he was named on the 2021 NXGN list of the world’s top teenage footballers.

Esposito told Goal.com: “I know that I’m not the first, nor will I be the last to go down to Serie B having played in Serie A.

“But I want to go back to where I started, even if I know it’s difficult.

“I’m sorry not to be there at Inter (for a potential title win), but I think that together we have made the right choice for me to develop.

“We have embarked on this path, though I do not know how long it will last.

“It could be for only another three months, another year or another three years.

“In June, we will see. We will sit down at a table and we will evaluate what is best for my future.”

Esposito’s most famous moment in an Inter shirt thus far came in a 4-0 win against Genoa in December 2019, when Romelu Lukaku allowed him to take a penalty in front of the San Siro crowd.

Lukaku is still in contact with Esposito and doing his best to help the youngster improve his game, despite the fact both are playing for different teams this season.

“Me, a 17-year-old boy, who is cheered by the fans for taking the penalty after being passed the ball by one of the strongest strikers in the world: I think it was a unique emotion,” Esposito recalled.

“At that moment I couldn’t think, and I think that helped. If I had to take that penalty now and being a little more conscious of what was happening, I would think about it 10 times more.

“Lukaku never had the difficulties I had this year, primarily because he is a champion and because he grew up abroad, where there are not the same difficulties facing young players when it comes to breaking through.

“He always gives me many tips, even with off-the-pitch stuff.

“We write to each other often.”
