Inter are interested in signing Napoli defender Nikola Maksimovic on a free transfer, a report in Italy confirmed today.

Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio are waiting for Suning to give the green light for them to start planning moves for the upcoming summer window.

Tuttosport’s print edition said the Nerazzurri were considering a move for the 29-year-old, who is out of contract with Napoli this summer.

Maksimovic could replace Andrea Ranocchia at centre-back, with the Italian not certain to sign a new deal to stay at Inter for next season.

Inter also have Danilo D’Ambrosio and Aleksandar Kolarov heading towards the end of their contracts this summer, but the club have different plans for the pair.

D’Ambrosio has an agreement to sign an extension while Kolarov is expected to depart after just one season.

Maksimovic has the same agent as Samir Handanovic, the Turin-based paper noted, or rather Fali Ramadani.

The defender wants to more than double his current salary at Napoli with a new club, from €1.2 million to €2.5-3 million.
