Stefano Sensi says he is returning to Inter as a revitalised player after returning to action with Italy.

Sensi scored the Azzurri’s opening goal last night as Roberto Mancini’s side beat Lithuania 2-0 in FIFA World Cup qualifying.

The former Sassuolo midfielder also started in Italy’s previous game in Bulgaria and was in high spirits as he prepared to head back to Appiano Gentile.

“It’s a great thing on a personal level (to score), this is what I work for,” Sensi told Rai Sport after Italy’s win in Lithuania.

“The training sessions with Italy have helped me mentally and physically.

“I’ve worked on the problems I had in the past and now I’ll try to be ready and available.

“We have a big target at Inter, in the meantime we’ve picked up three important wins on the road for Qatar 2022.

“I’m happy for Italy and for Inter, we’re trying to achieve as many positive results as possible.”

Sensi has started just once in all competitions for Inter this season, and that came way back in September during the 5-2 win at Benevento.

Antonio Conte will be hoping the 25-year-old can provide a much greater contribution to the Nerazzurri’s Serie A title bid now, having hardly featured at all during the last two months.

Sensi, Nicolo Barella and Alessandro Bastoni are due to return to Inter training tomorrow ahead of Saturday’s crucial Serie A fixture away at Bologna.
