Ex-Inter Midfielder Felipe Melo: “Proud Of Nerazzurri’s Serie A Campaign, I’ll Always Be Interista”

Inter’s Serie A title bid has received the backing from their former midfielder Felipe Melo.

Antonio Conte’s side are six points clear of second-placed AC Milan (with a game in hand) ahead of tomorrow’s trip to play Bologna.

Inter are on an eight-game winning run in the league and are odds-on favourites to win the Scudetto for the first time since 2010.

Melo is cheering them on from back in Brazil, telling TuttoMercatoWeb on Thursday: “You all know that even though I played for Juventus, I’m cheering for the Nerazzurri.

“I am and will always be an Interista.

“The Scudetto is close for Inter but they’ve not won it yet.

“Mister Conte is coaching a brilliant team which is full of very good players.

“I really am proud of the journey Inter have been on this season.”

Melo joined Inter on the final day of the summer transfer window in 2015 and made 38 appearances in all competitions.

He left in January 2017 to join Palmeiras and is still there now, completing an historic treble this season by winning the Copa Libertadores, Copa do Brasil and Campionato Paulista.

“It was a truly special feeling to win the treble like Inter did with Jose Mourinho (in 2010),” the 38-year-old added.

Melo also played for Juventus and Fiorentina during his time in Italy, after which he spent five seasons representing Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig.
