Inter were Serie A’s most prolific ‘team’ during the March international break, a report in the Italian media highlighted today.
Tuttosport’s print edition pointed out that the Nerazzurri’s players had scored six goals in FIFA World Cup qualifying, more than any other team in Italy’s top flight.
Romelu Lukaku scored twice for Belgium and so did Milan Skriniar with Slovakia, while Ivan Perisic and Stefano Sensi both scored for Croatia and Italy respectively.
Napoli were second in this peculiar league table with four goals on international duty, while AC Milan, Atalanta and Lazio’s players all scored three.
The Turin-based paper went on to argue that Skriniar, Perisic and Sensi were the three Inter players to benefit most from playing for their countries during the past fortnight.
All three scored and received plaudits in their home countries before returning to Appiano Gentile on Wednesday (for Skriniar and Perisic) or yesterday (Sensi).
Antonio Conte will be relieved most of all that none of his players came back with COVID-19, as Inter prepare for their Serie A title run-in.
