Romelu Lukaku’s goal-scoring form will be pivotal to whether Inter can win Serie A, according to Nerazzurri legend Riccardo Ferri.
The Belgian has already found the net on 25 times in all competitions this season, although he hasn’t scored in any of Inter’s last three games.
Antonio Conte’s side resume their charge towards the Scudetto tonight when they visit Bologna at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
Asked what Inter’s secret weapon in the title race could be, Ferri told Gazzetta dello Sport on Friday: “The team’s approach and Lukaku will be the weapons.
“Lukaku is having an extraordinary season in terms of goals and his positive attitude towards teammates.
“Winning the Serie A golden boot would be the icing on the cake, when you think about it he’s only four goals behind a phenomenon like Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Lukaku can do it.”
Inter have a healthy lead ahead of AC Milan at the top of the standings, with a six-point cushion over their city rivals plus a game in hand.
However, Conte’s men have not played since the win at Torino on March 14 and it remains to be seen how they will react this evening.
“Inter need to stay fully concentrated on their weekly work and on all the details which can make the difference,” Ferri warned.
“One of these details is the risk of catching COVID-19 off the pitch, as we’ve seen in the last few days with the national teams and with Inter themselves before the break.”
Ferri was asked which of Inter’s remaining games would be the most important for them and gave a pragmatic answer.
“The game against Bologna is very important because you always have doubts over players’ individual fitness levels after the international break,” he added.
“I agree with Conte in that it’s pointless to think too far ahead, it’s better to concentrate on the next game.”
