Inter are the only team in Serie A that can confidently look forward to playing in the Champions League next season, according to Italian journalist Paolo Condo.
Antonio Conte’s side secured a 1-0 win over Bologna last night to move eight points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand, whilst AC Milan, Atalanta, Juventus, Napoli, Lazio and Roma battle for a place in the top four.
Writing in today’s newspaper edition of La Repubblica, Condo suggested that the Nerazzurri were the only team that had assured themselves of a place in next season’s competition, whilst warning that it was too early to declare Inter as champions.
“League titles are celebrated with the comfort of the arithmetic, and with another 10 games to play Inter still need to fulfil a quarter of their calendar,” Condo declared.
“I do not think Conte has grabbed the bottle of champagne yet, and may have only drunk two fingers worth because the victory in Bologna has widened the gap further on the challengers.
“Inter remain the only team reasonably certain of a place in the Champions League. The other three places dance between five teams, and possibly even a sixth in Roma,” he concluded.
Inter can move a step closer to the title when they welcome Sassuolo to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Wednesday, in a rearranged fixture originally scheduled for March. The game was postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the Inter squad.
