Ahead of his side’s rearranged Serie A match against Inter on Wednesday, Sassuolo forward Giacomo Raspadori has revealed that he was a fan of the Nerazzurri as a child.

Inter welcome Roberto De Zerbi’s team to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza after the match was postponed in March due to a COVID-19 outbreak, and Raspadori goes into the game off the back of netting a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw against Roma yesterday.

In an interview published in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport, the 21-year-old revealed he was a supporter of Inter and that former Nerazzurri striker Samuel Eto’o had been his boyhood hero.

“Sometimes I feel like I am living inside the PlayStation. I’ve already faced all the champions I used to play as on the video games, like [Romelu] Lukaku, Cristiano Ronaldo and I swapped shirts with [Paulo] Dybala. But the ones who struck me the most live are Lautaro Martinez and Papu Gomez,” Raspadori declared.

“In my room I had an Eto’o poster. I was a supporter of Inter and I was crazy about the Cameroonian who was the protagonist of the treble.”

Raspadori has enjoyed a breakout season with Sassuolo this term after making 19 appearances, in addition to the 11 Serie A games he featured in last year, and took the opportunity to thank his teammates for their support.

“I am lucky because here in Sassuolo I am surrounded by fantastic teammates, they take care of me and everyone offers advice, starting with De Zerbi. I try to learn from watching. [Domenico] Berardi leaves you speechless, he has crazy skills on the ball. It’s almost impossible to steal possession from [Manuel] Locatelli,” Raspadori added.
