Roberto Gagliardini is currently the favourite to replace Marcelo Brozovic when Inter play Sassuolo, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Brozovic will be suspended for Wednesday’s match at San Siro after finally picking up his fifth booking of the season in the 1-0 win at Bologna.

As per Gazzetta.it, Christian Eriksen should move into Brozovic’s central midfield role against the Neroverdi, with Gagliardini taking the Dane’s place as a ‘mezzala’.

Gagliardini scored in the reverse fixture against Sassuolo this season, the report recalled, when Inter secured a 3-0 win at the Mapei Stadium.

Arturo Vidal pulled off a miraculous recovery from knee surgery to make the squad for Saturday’s game against Bologna, but the Milan-based paper said the Chilean was not ready to start a match after nearly four weeks out.

Stefano Sensi is therefore the real alternative to Gagliardini available to Antonio Conte, after the former Sassuolo midfielder was revitalised by Roberto Mancini during the international break.

Matias Vecino is also available for selection, after the Urguayan made his second cameo appearance of the season at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.

Conte is unlikely to rotate his side against Sassuolo, the report confirmed, although Alexis Sanchez is eager to start.

Matteo Darmian or Danilo D’Ambrosio will likely replace Alessandro Bastoni, who is also suspended.
