Inter’s Matteo Darmian To Replace Alessandro Bastoni Against Sassuolo, Italian Media Claim

Matteo Darmian is favourite to replace Alessandro Bastoni when Inter host Sassuolo tomorrow, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Bastoni is suspended for the rearranged Serie A fixture with the Neroverdi after picking up his fifth booking of the season at Bologna on Saturday.

Tuttosport’s print edition said Darmian should partner Milan Skriniar and the returning Stefan de Vrij in Antonio Conte’s back three.

Alexis Sanchez could replace Lautaro Martinez up front, while Achraf Hakimi and Ashley Young will keep their places at wing-back.

Conte will be without Bastoni, Marcelo Brozovic (also suspended), Aleksandar Kolarov and Ivan Perisic for the game at San Siro.

Nicolo Barella is expected to take over the Croatian’s play-maker role while Christian Eriksen stays as a mezzala.

The Turin-based paper’s report did not offer any details on who Inter’s third midfielder would be, although Roberto Gagliardini is favourite according to another source.
