Inter CEO Beppe Marotta: “Feeling Better After COVID-19, Antonio Conte Deserves Huge Credit”

Beppe Marotta has sung the praises of Inter boss Antonio Conte ahead of tonight’s match against Sassuolo.

Conte has the Nerazzurri sitting eight points clear of second-placed AC Milan before this evening’s game in hand at San Siro.

Marotta is returning to San Siro today for the first time since recovering from COVID-19, having been hospitalised as a precaution last month.

“I’m feeling better after having overcome a difficult experience in terms of my health,” Inter’s chief executive told DAZN prior to kick-off.

“But I managed to witness the humanity and competence of Lombardy’s health personnel, an experience which leaves its mark on you and teaches you things.”

Marotta has been a key figure in Inter’s Serie A title chase, having helped isolate Conte’s players from the ongoing speculation surrounding owners Suning.

He has had to watch from afar in recent weeks but is excited to be back in touch with the Nerazzurri.

“I was in constant contact with the club and I can only be excited by what’s happened,” Marotta added, referring to Inter’s nine-game winning run in Serie A.

Marotta was also asked what he said to Conte and the Inter players when he was reunited with them after his COVID-19 recovery.

“I congratulated everyone but the biggest praise goes to Conte, a leader and a winning coach,” he argued.

“We’re in an interesting period of the season; we’re the hare but the hunters are chasing us behind.

“We need to remember there are lots of points still to be won, but the determination I’ve seen from the team is a good sign.”

Conte has made three changes tonight from Saturday’s 1-0 win at Bologna, with Stefan de Vrij, Matteo Darmian and Roberto Gagliardini all coming into the side.
