Roberto Gagliardini is expected to start for Inter when the Nerazzurri host Sassuolo tonight, according to a report in the Italian media.

Tuttosport’s print edition said the Italian was favourite to replace the suspended Marcelo Brozovic for the match at San Siro – although Antonio Conte did also try out Matias Vecino in training yesterday.

Matteo Darmian will come in for Alessandro Bastoni (who is also suspended) on the left-hand side of defence, with Stefan de Vrij returning to Inter’s back three in the middle.

Ashley Young will start again at left wing-back while Lautaro Martinez keeps his place in attack at the expense of Alexis Sanchez.

Nicolo Barella and Christian Eriksen will alternate play-making duties in midfield in Brozovic’s absence.

Ivan Perisic and Aleksandar Kolarov are unavailable against the Neroverdi due to injury while Danilo D’Ambrosio is ready to start on the bench, having recovered from COVID-19.

Inter’s probable starting XI (3-5-2): Samir Handanovic; Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij, Matteo Darmian; Achraf Hakimi, Roberto Gagliardini, Nicolo Barella, Christian Eriksen, Ashley Young; Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez.
