Inter will be without Nicolo Barella when they host the midfielder’s former club Cagliari on Sunday.

Barella picked up his fifth booking of the season during last night’s 2-1 win over Sassuolo, triggering an automatic one-game suspension.

Serie A sports judge Gerardo Mastrandrea confirmed the sanction for the 24-year-old today, meaning Barella will return to action at Napoli next Sunday.

Ashley Young is now one booking away from his own one-match ban, having received his fourth yellow card of the campaign against the Neroverdi.

Barella has been walking a disciplinary tightrope ever since Inter’s 2-0 win at home to Juventus on January 17, but he has kept his discipline admirably during the last 10 games for Antonio Conte’s side.

The midfielder finally got caught out during the first half last night, mistiming a challenge on Sassuolo defender Rogerio near the touchline.

He will therefore not get the chance to face his boyhood club Cagliari, against whom he scored a tremendous volley during a 3-1 win at the Sardegna Arena back in December.
