Christian Eriksen is showing all his class in midfield as Inter stride towards the Serie A title, according to a leading Italian journalist.

The Dane alternated play-making duties with Nicolo Barella during last night’s 2-1 win over Sassuolo, which took the Nerazzurri 11 points clear at the top of the table.

Eriksen only played 59 minutes at San Siro before being replaced by Stefano Sensi, but that was enough to earn the approval of Mario Sconcerti today.

“He’s found his place at Inter in an unfamiliar area of the pitch for him,” Sconcerti wrote in a column for Corriere della Sera’s print edition.

“Eriksen covered the space in front of the defence last night and he did so like a professional, with intelligence.

“It was a game where the entire Inter team sat in front of their defenders in order to deny space to Sassuolo, a younger but not inferior opponent.”

Inter have left their title rivals for dead since the start of 2021, racking up 10 straight wins in the league for the first time since 2007.

AC Milan and Juventus have been punished for their inconsistent form and Sconcerti sees no hope of either overhauling the Nerazzurri now.

“In a league where everyone else is only worried about finishing in the top four, Inter are in an undisturbed territory where no other life form exists,” Sconcerti added.

“In practical terms they’re very close to winning the title, although it’s pointless to say they’ve already won it.

“They could never be caught now, but as soon as they draw a game there will be a lot of people raising their hands to express a few doubts.

“Let’s focus on the maths: Inter are 11 points clear, which is worth four games out of nine remaining.

“It’s a ‘real’ advantage of more than 40%, and that’s when you assume the others are going to win all their remaining games.

“Inter’s lead is as wide as the sea.”

Inter will return to Serie A action on Sunday when Antonio Conte’s side welcome struggling Cagliari to San Siro.
