Italian Media Suggest Inter Are Keen To Retain Forward Alexis Sanchez, Despite Chilean Looking For More Opportunities

Inter are determined to hold on to forward Alexis Sanchez next season as a back-up option to strikers Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez.

The Chile international joined Inter on a free transfer from Manchester United last summer after spending the previous season on loan, but has often played a back-up role behind coach Antonio Conte’s preferred attacking line-up.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sanchez has another year remaining on his contract at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, and despite his lofty €7 million per season wages, Inter want to keep hold of him.

Sanchez has proved to be a useful alternative and Conte has found the former Barcelona forward a hard-working and committed member of his squad, even in January when he was in the midst of a potential exchange with Roma striker Edin Dzeko.

The 32-year-old believes that he can offer more than a back-up option and would like to feature more regularly, whilst understanding that the form of Lukaku and Martinez would make either of them extremely difficult to dislodge.

Since arriving at Inter, Sanchez has scored nine goals in 62 appearances, with his most recent goals coming as he netted a brace in a 2-1 win over Parma last month.
