Former Inter striker Aldo Serena believes that coach Antonio Conte’s options from the bench made the difference in a 1-0 win over Cagliari today.
A late Matteo Darmian goal was enough to secure victory over the Isolani at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and send Inter 11 points clear at the top, but Serena expressed his surprise at Cagliari’s struggles.
Taking to Twitter, the former Juventus and AC Milan forward believed that Cagliari had the quality to test Inter and could not understand why they were languishing in the relegation zone, five points from safety.
“Cagliari shackled Inter for large parts of the match. Conte’s substitutions added more quality. The surprise is not Inter’s difficulties but the position of Cagliari, who have quality throughout the team and should be in the top half,” Serena tweeted.
With the match seemingly heading for a draw, Conte introduced Lautaro Martinez and Achraf Hakimi prior to Darmian’s winner, before also bringing on Roberto Gagliardini, Matias Vecino and Danilo D’Ambrosio to secure the win.
The victory saw Inter secure an 11th consecutive win in Serie A and move them closer to a first Scudetto since 2010.
