After scoring the only goal in Inter’s 1-0 win over Cagliari in Serie A this afternoon, Matteo Darmian praised coach Antonio Conte.

The Nerazzurri laboured against a struggling Cagliari side looking to pull themselves away from the threat of relegation, but eventually secured victory when Darmian struck midway through the second half.

Darmian spoke of the impact of the coach in his post-match interview with Italian television broadcaster DAZN, as reported by FCInterNews.it, with victory sending Inter 11 points clear at the top.

“I did not see Conte’s celebration as I was embracing my teammates. We know Conte though, he is someone who gives his soul and does everything to try to win. We are proving it,” the former Manchester United defender claimed.

Darmian admitted that Inter had come up against a difficult opponent and were forced to work for the win, but felt that the result sent a message to the chasing pack in the race for the title.

“We faced a good team who defended well from the start. With teams like these it is difficult to find space, but we are happy with the result.

“All the components of this feel important, there are still several games to go and we have to be ready.

“It was a difficult match which we couldn’t unlock. Winning sends a signal out to everyone else,” Darmian concluded.

Inter look to move another step closer to a first Scudetto since 2010 when they visit Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona next Sunday.
