Inter’s improvement this season was summed up by the determination to battle through and secure a 1-0 win over Cagliari today, according to Italian journalist Marco Bucciantini.

The Nerazzurri faced a resolute Sardinian defence at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and appeared destined for a draw until Matteo Darmian struck late on, earning Antonio Conte’s side an 11th consecutive win.

Appearing on Italian television channel Sky Sport Italia earlier today, Bucciantini reflected on the difference in Inter’s team this season, as they moved 11 points ahead of AC Milan at the top of the table.

“Today Inter were in Cagliari’s half and did well. They created a lot and scored in a way in which all coaches who take this approach like, from one wing to the other,” Bucciantini claimed.

“They were able to suffer and take on pressure and this is what makes Inter different this year. It is not what they do and who they play, but how they do it. The mentality and concentration they provide when attacking and accepting that they must still defend even though they are first.”

Inter look to move another step closer to the Serie A title when they visit Napoli at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza next Sunday, as they challenge for a first Scudetto in 11 years.

The Nerazzurri have now maintained seven clean sheets in their winning streak, having kept Cagliari’s attack at bay throughout the match.
