Alexis Sanchez Performance Against Cagliari Proved Inter Need Luis Muriel, Italian Media Argue

PUBLICATION NOT IN ITA

Inter have lessons to learn from yesterday’s match against Cagliari despite securing a 1-0 win, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition said Alexis Sanchez disappointed against the Rossoblu and proved once again that he is more effective as a substitute than when he starts.

Inter have not been made to pay for the Chilean’s inconsistent performances, with Conte’s men sitting 11 points clear at the top of Serie A.

However, the Milan-based paper argued that they would need to sign a player like Luis Muriel from Atalanta if they wanted to strengthen the squad for next season.

Muriel would be an ideal option for Antonio Conte as he could play as back-up to Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, while also being effective when asked to replace one of them from the start.

Sanchez has caused Conte many selection headaches this season with his impressive substitute appearances, but the report claimed he was not quite the same when named in the starting XI.

Inter’s third-choice striker (Sanchez) has played fewer minutes in Serie A (948) than AC Milan, Juventus, Atalanta and Napoli’s back-up forwards, underlining the Nerazzurri’s reliance on Lukaku and Lautaro.
