Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio are the real secret behind Inter’s march towards the Serie A title, at least according to one former Nerazzurri defender.

Inter maintained their 11-point lead at the top of the table yesterday after securing a hard-fought 1-0 win at home to Cagliari.

Antonio Conte has transformed the Nerazzurri’s fortunes since he was appointed their head coach in 2019, but Inter’s former defender Fabio Galante wants to give credit to his directors as well.

Speaking to Sport Mediaset on ‘Pressing’, Galante argued: “Ausilio and Marotta are the real secret at Inter.

“They gave Conte everything he wanted again last summer and I think the future looks good, regardless of Inter’s off-field problems.

“They’re keeping me and all the fans feel relaxed and calm.”

Inter have kept nine clean sheets in their last 13 league games and always seem to be in control of games, no matter how they set up.

Conte has received some criticism in the media for a perceived cautious approach, but Galante thinks this Inter team has its own beauty.

“The beauty of Conte’s approach is seeing how difficult it is for teams to face Inter,” he explained.

“Conte deserves credit for making sure everyone feels involved; I’ve never seen an unhappy player in any of the teams he’s coached.

“He has given Inter’s players a belief in their own ability; if they’d been playing like this in the UEFA Champions League (before Christmas) we’d have had better fortune.”

Inter will look to make another stride towards the Scudetto when they visit Napoli on Sunday night.
