Inter have made their own piece of Serie A history thanks to their 1-0 win over Cagliari, a report in the Italian media highlighted today.

Matteo Darmian was the Nerazzurri’s hero yesterday as the wing-back tapped in Achraf Hakimi’s cross to re-establish an 11-point lead at the top.

As highlighted by Corriere dello Sport’s print edition, Inter are the first team in Serie A history to begin the second half of a league season with 11 straight wins.

Antonio Conte’s side are therefore well on course to end the club’s 11-year wait for a league title, with just eight games left now.

Beppe Marotta was keen to dismiss critics of Inter’s style of play yesterday, the Rome-based paper continued, when asked about Conte’s football philosophy pre-match.

Inter’s CEO drew on a phrase from the club’s former head coach Heriberto Herrera, who once said: “You win leagues with points in the table, not with possession.”

Marotta has fully endorsed Conte’s playing style over the last two years and is on course as a result to add yet another league title to his glittering career as a director.
