Matteo Darmian has silenced all his critics following his arrival at Inter last summer, according to a report in the Italian media.

Darmian was the hero for the Nerazzurri yesterday as he scored a late goal to secure a 1-0 win at home to Cagliari.

Calciomercato.com said the Italian was a symbol of Antonio Conte’s Inter: efficient, hard-working and humble.

Inter spent €3 million to sign the wing-back from Parma and it has turned out to be a bargain, despite many at the time questioning the decision to recruit Darmian.

Darmian joined Parma from Manchester United in 2019 but there was a tacit agreement between Parma and Inter that he would move to the Nerazzurri 12 months later.

The 31-year-old has made sure Inter have never missed Achraf Hakimi’s rampaging runs whenever he has replaced the Moroccan, the report argued.

Darmian has made himself useful and decisive for Conte, with the goal against Cagliari coming after previous strikes this season against Genoa and Borussia Monchengladbach.

The defender was described as ‘silent but influential’, having proven himself capable of playing in three different positions for Inter (right wing-back, left wing-back and centre-back).

Italy boss Roberto Mancini should be considering giving Darmian a spot in his squad for this summer’s European Championships, CM argued.
