Stefano Sensi is on the road to recovery at Inter after starting against Cagliari yesterday, according to a report in the Italian media.

Sensi made his first start for the Nerazzurri since 30 September, playing 81 minutes in a priceless 1-0 win for Antonio Conte’s side at San Siro.

FcInterNews.it claimed Sensi gave a positive performance all things considered, giving Conte a lot of encouraging signs in terms of his physical condition.

He remains a long way off the player he was at the start of last season, but Inter now have reason to hope the midfielder will be an extra weapon in their quest to secure the Serie A title.

Sensi took a while to get into the match, the report explained, but he gained confidence after swapping positions with Christian Eriksen in midfield.

He was inspired at times and produced a fine save from Cagliari’s stand-in goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario shortly after half-time.

Conte replaced Sensi with Matias Vecino late on but that was only to give Inter fresh legs as they defended their lead.

The 25-year-old ‘took the first step’ towards making a full recovery, FCIN argued, having missed large chunks of this season with persistent injury problems.
