Inter Must Improve Squad Depth To Make Progress In Champions League, Italian Media Argue

Inter’s directors have work to do if the Nerazzurri are to become competitive in Europe, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Antonio Conte’s side are cantering towards their first Serie A title in 11 years, holding an 11-point lead over AC Milan in second with just eight games left.

Conte’s next challenge after securing the Scudetto would be to improve Inter’s form in the UEFA Champions League, following a third consecutive group stage exit before Christmas.

In order to do this, according to Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, Inter need much better options off the bench than they have had this season.

Inter cannot hope to compete in Europe with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Aleksandar Kolarov, Arturo Vidal and Matias Vecino as their substitutes, this report argued.

The Nerazzurri have international ambitions and it is now up to Suning, along with Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio, to build a squad which can fulfill those lofty ambitions.
