Inter will re-sign former academy defender Zinho Vanheusden from Standard Liege this summer, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Tuttosport’s print edition said the Nerazzurri would be seeking centre-backs to replace the outgoing Aleksandar Kolarov and Andrea Ranocchia.

Inter could opt to sign a defender on a free transfer, with various names linked, but there is another possible strategy which would be to bring back two of their youngsters.

Vanheusden is due to be signed for around €17 million, as per Inter’s agreement with Standard Liege when they sold him to Belgium for €12.6 million two years ago.

The 21-year-old made his debut for Belgium’s senior team last October before rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament for the second time.

Antonio Conte will evaluate Vanheusden in pre-season before deciding whether to keep him at Inter as back-up to Stefan de Vrij, Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni.

In addition to Vanheusden, Inter could also recall Lorenzo Pirola following his season-long loan at Monza.

Conte will get the final say on both as the Nerazzurri plan a defensive reshuffle for the 2021-22 season.
