Nicolas Tagliafico appears to be very keen on the idea of joining Inter, following reports linking the Ajax defender with the Nerazzuri.

Inter are known to be on the hunt for a new left-footed wing-back ahead of next season, with Ashley Young expected to leave when his contract expires this summer.

Tagliafico is often rumoured to be a transfer target for Antonio Conte’s side, and the 28-year-old did nothing to downplay those reports today.

“It’s incredible to be linked with a team like Inter with all their history and prestige,” Tagliafico told TuttoMercatoWeb, ahead of Ajax’s UEFA Europa League quarter-final second leg at Roma tonight.

“I can tell you that Javier Zanetti has always been my idol, having played almost his entire career with the Nerazzurri.

“This interest can only be a pleasure for me to hear, but I’m a realistic person and so I’d rather focus exclusively on the present.

“At the moment I’m enjoying my adventure with Ajax, then we’ll see what happens in the future…”

Asked about the prospect of moving to Serie A, the Argentine added: “It’s a very competitive league with lots of tactically astute teams and great players.

“I would obviously like to play in the Italian league one day, it’s an intriguing league.”

Tagliafico has made 35 appearances for Ajax this season, scoring once and providing three assists in all competitions for the runaway Eredivisie leaders.

Ajax suffered a 2-1 defeat in last week’s first leg against Roma and will need a special performance at the Stadio Olimpico to reach the last four.

Tagliafico has played 27 times for Argentina’s national team, having made his senior debut for the Albiceleste back in 2017.
