Inter could come up against one of their future goalkeepers when they visit Napoli on Sunday, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Tuttosport’s print edition confirmed the Nerazzurri were interested in goalkeeper Alex Meret, who will stand in for the injured David Ospina at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Meret is unhappy with Gennaro Gattuso’s decision to make him a second-choice option behind Ospina this season, with his agent Federico Pastorello seeking a new club for him.

Inter are keen on the 24-year-old and it is not impossible they could pursue him as a long-term replacement for Samir Handanovic in goal.

Roma are another team interested in seeking a deal for Meret, who has made 20 appearances in all competitions for Napoli this season.

Inter need a goalkeeper who is prepared to join without being guaranteed an immediate place in the starting XI, the Turin-based paper, because Handanovic could yet continue for another season or two.
