Antonio Conte doesn’t deserve the criticism he is receiving for his style of play at Inter, according to former Nerazzurri midfielder Francesco Moriero.

Inter are on course to win their first league title since 2010, with Conte’s side sitting 11 points clear at the top of the table ahead of their final eight games.

Some are refusing to give the Nerazzurri the praise they are due, instead choosing to attack Conte for a supposedly boring or defensive style of play.

Moriero is having none of it though, telling Tuttosport on Thursday: “People are looking at things that don’t exist, like the style of play.

“They’ve accused Conte of not having a Plan B and Inter of playing badly, but the Nerazzurri keep winning.

“I think people should just draw a line and look at the results.”

Inter will look to take another step towards the title on Sunday when they play Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Conte’s side could record an incredible 12th straight win in the league, but Moriero warned his former side that the Partenopei could cause them problems.

“When Napoli attack, they can hurt any team,” he argued.

“They can also concede a lot at the other end though, unlike Inter who play a more traditional Italian style.

“The Nerazzurri are dominating this weird season and are deservedly top of the table; I think the title race is over.”

Moriero was also asked whether Inter’s current team could be compared to his side from the late 1990s, but he wasn’t particularly convinced.

“You can’t compare them because Ronaldo was a special player,” he admitted.

“Romelu Lukaku is certainly the face of this Scudetto for Inter though.

“Achraf Hakimi is more of a full-back than a true attacking midfielder like I was.

“They’re two different teams; we were a team of soloists, there was so much quality.”

Moriero made 83 appearances during a three-year spell at Inter, scoring 10 goals and helping the Nerazzurri win the UEFA Cup in 1998.
