Inter will choose between one of two players to become their next club captain after Samir Handanovic, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Tuttosport’s print edition said the Nerazzurri would pick either Nicolo Barella or Milan Skriniar to take over the armband from the Slovenian.

Handanovic remains Inter’s captain for the time being and it could remain that way for some time yet, considering his impressive form during the second half of the season.

Whenever the 36-year-old does hand over the armband though, Inter already know it will be destined for either Barella or Skriniar.

Barella is set to receive a new and improved contract at Inter, the Turin-based paper explained, which could tie him to the club until 2026.

The midfielder, who is sometimes regarded as ‘Captain Future’, has had interest from Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur, but Inter are not listening to any of them.
