Antonio Conte is fully aware Inter must improve their style of play next season, at least according to one leading Italian journalist.

The Nerazzurri are 11 points clear at the top of Serie A ahead of tomorrow’s big match away at Napoli, arguably their toughest remaining fixture of the season.

Conte is dividing opinion in Italy with the football Inter are playing, attracting criticism in certain corners for relying too heavily on the counterattack and not enough on possession.

“I have no problem with Conte’s style of play and I’ve always said results are all that matter,” Mario Sconcerti wrote in a column for Calciomercato.com on Friday.

“Results always tell you a certain story; if you play badly you will never win something.

“What I expect from teams though is that they develop and improve, and even this Inter side which is winning in Serie A needs to improve a lot.

“It’s pointless discussing it now but it will be key in the future, and Conte knows that better than any of us.

“Inter are a solid and efficient team who don’t catch the eye but have lots of eye-catching players.

“That’s why I’m convinced Conte can build and extract more from this team; if he didn’t manage it then he’d be the first person to be disappointed about that.”

Inter will be seeking a 12th straight league win when they take on Napoli tomorrow, having made a new piece of Serie A history in last weekend’s 1-0 victory over Cagliari.

Conte’s side are the first team ever in Serie A to begin the second half of the season with 11 consecutive wins, breaking the previous record (10) set by Arrigo Sacchi’s AC Milan in 1990.

Inter beat Napoli in this season’s reverse fixture, with Romelu Lukaku’s penalty securing a 1-0 win at San Siro back in December.
