Inter centre-back Alessandro Bastoni insists that his team are focused on ensuring that they have the best defensive record in Serie A, as well as securing the Scudetto.

Antonio Conte’s side face Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Serie A this evening and look to restore their 11-point advantage at the top of the table, as they close in on a first Scudetto since 2010.

In an interview with club television channel InterTV before kick-off, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, Bastoni outlined the Nerazzurri’s targets for the remainder of the season, in addition to winning the league.

“We are very keen to do well, Napoli are a strong team and we will facing them in a difficult stadium, but we are determined to do the best we can,” the 21-year-old declared.

“We know well the qualities of Napoli, especially in attack. They have many players who can put us in difficulty, but our target beyond the Scudetto is to end the season as the best defence in the league and this is a further incentive for us.”

Inter have had to grind out a number of wins in recent weeks and Bastoni felt that this had stood them in good stead for their development as title contenders.

“I think being able to defend and suffer against teams is sign of further growth that came this year. We know how to manage matches very well, defending and being able to launch attacks from there,” he concluded.

Inter are looking to secure a 12th consecutive win in Serie A when they face the Partenopei, who themselves come into the match with four wins from five games.
