Inter are set to hold off on making a decision on the future of out-of-contract defender Danilo D’Ambrosio until the end of the season, potentially disrupting AC Milan’s plans.

The former Torino full-back is out of contract at the end of the campaign, but according to FCInter1908.it, Inter inserted an optional one-year extension into his contract that can be triggered by the end of May.

D’Ambrosio’s agent, Vincenzo Pisacane, sparked intrigue earlier this week after meeting with Milan to discuss a two-year deal with the Rossoneri, but was unable to give a definitive answer due to the potential of an extension with Inter.

The Nerazzurri intend to trigger the additional year and keep D’Ambrosio at the club, but no formal decision will be made until next month and Pisacane’s meeting has been viewed as an effort to speed Inter’s decision up.

Milan’s approach is seen as being reminiscent of Inter’s enquiries about Rossoneri midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu some months ago, with the Turkey international’s contract also up this summer and as yet no agreement on a new deal has been found.
