Inter’s players look set to be banned from taking part in this summer’s European Championships after UEFA’s president Aleksandar Ceferin slammed plans for a new Super League.

The Nerazzurri were one of 12 leading European clubs to confirm their participation in the franchise last night, along with Serie A rivals AC Milan and Juventus.

Ceferin attacked the Super League plans today (as per Sky Sports), describing them as ‘disgraceful’, ‘self-serving’ and ‘a spit in the face of all football lovers’.

He also confirmed that all players involved with the 12 clubs would be banned from the European Championships and the next FIFA World Cup in Qatar, with bans for the former to be pursued ‘as soon as possible’.

Ceferin said: “It’s a nonsense of a project.

“I cannot stress more strongly UEFA and the footballing world are united against the disgraceful, self-serving proposals we have seen, fuelled purely by greed.

“We’re still assessing the situation with our legal team regarding the Euros, it’s a bit too early.

“We will take all the sanctions that we can and we will inform you as soon as we have a clear answer.

“My opinion is that, as soon as possible, the players have to be banned from all our competitions.”

Inter are one of 12 leading European clubs who have confirmed they will be founders of the new league, along with six Premier League clubs – Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool – and three La Liga teams, namely Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

20 teams are expected to participate in the Super League, as per an official statement last night, with 15 founding clubs and five clubs who qualify for the tournament each year via league position.

The Super League is expected to hold matches in midweek while the teams continue to take part in their respective league competitions at weekends.
