Inter’s critics ‘would not have a leg to stand on’ if they tried to discredit the Nerazzurri after last night’s draw at Napoli, a report in the Italian media argued today.

Antonio Conte’s side moved another step closer to the Serie A with a precious point at the Stadio Diego Armando Madona, secured thanks to a fine second-half equaliser from Christian Eriksen.

Tuttosport’s print edition said Inter flexed their muscles against Gennaro Gattuso’s side, impressing for the personality with which they controlled the game after falling behind.

The Nerazzurri had to work very hard for their point, but Conte was well aware it wouldn’t be an easy game and warned everyone of this during his pre-match press conference.

Inter’s draw meant they were unable to extend their Serie A winning run beyond 11 games, the Turin-based paper added, but this was nonetheless a positive result in their bid to win the Scudetto.

Conte’s side have fallen one game short of the winning run he achieved with Juventus during the 2013-14 season (12 games), but AC Milan remain nine points adrift in second and therefore this is not a reason for concern.

Inter have pulled clear in Serie A, the report argued, thanks to having the league’s second most prolific attack (behind Atalanta) and the joint-best defence with Juventus.
