Manchester City have pulled out of Europe’s new Super League and Chelsea are preparing to do the same, according to reports in the UK tonight.
Inter were one of 12 leading clubs to announce on Sunday night that they would be participating in a new franchise, along with Serie A rivals AC Milan and Juventus.
The Super League appears to be already on the brink of collapse though, with BBC Sport reporting Chelsea and Manchester City are pulling out.
About 1,000 Chelsea fans congregated outside Stamford Bridge before tonight’s Premier League match at home to Brighton, to protest the club’s involvement in the league.
Chelsea were the first club to prepare documentation to withdraw, but Manchester City withdrew soon after that.
It is not clear apparently how binding the clubs’ contracts to the Super League are, but Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is thought to have made the decision to leave after seeing widespread condemnation for the franchise across the world.
