Inter fans should be encouraged by their team’s performance in Sunday night’s draw at Napoli, according to Italian football legend Arrigo Sacchi.

The Nerazzurri moved a step closer to securing the Serie A title with a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, thanks to a second-half equaliser from Christian Eriksen.

Antonio Conte’s side are now nine points clear of AC Milan at the top of the table, with just seven games left.

“After Samir Handanovic’s own goal, you saw the power of this Inter team,” former AC Milan and Italy coach Sacchi told Gazzetta dello Sport‘s online edition.

“I liked their performance, they showed they can do more than just playing on the counterattack.

“There was synergy between the various parts of the team.

“Conte is trying to provide leadership, he’s not a presumptuous coach and he’s trying to improve his players’ footballing knowledge.

“He knows that you can’t win in Europe unless you make another step forward, unless you have 11 world-class players.

“Antonio has built the foundations for a great future at Inter.”

Sacchi also had one piece of advice for Inter as they close in on their first league title since way back in 2010.

“Inter mustn’t feel like they’ve become invincible,” he warned.

“When you make that mistake you will fall.

“You must always remain convinced of your ideas, because that’s the only way you improve, but also stay humble enough to ensure you’re always hungry to surprise people.”

Inter will play a second consecutive away game tomorrow when they travel to play Spezia at the Stadio Alberto Picco.

Conte’s side will then round off another three-game week by hosting Hellas Verona at San Siro on Sunday, after which there will only be five games left.
