Samir Handanovic will almost certainly remain Inter’s starting goalkeeper next season, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Calciomercato.com said the Nerazzurri had other priorities which they considered more important than finding a successor to the Slovenian, who is out of contract in 2022.

Handanovic is likely to sign a new deal at some point, although it is not out of the question that he will start the 2021-22 season (the final year of his contract) without an extension.

Inter have ‘frozen’ their interest for Udinese’s Juan Musso as a result, albeit they remain alert to all opportunities which could appear on the transfer market, such as Alex Meret at Napoli.

Handanovic was placed under fresh scrutiny following his comical own goal during Sunday’s 1-1 draw away at Napoli, his first costly mistake in some time for Inter.

Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio are focusing on strengthening other positions, in any case, such as signing a back-up striker for Romelu Lukaku (which could be Roma’s Edin Dzeko) and an experienced midfielder (possibly Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum).
