Samir Handanovic’s future at Inter is likely to remain uncertain for several months, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Gazzetta.it said the Nerazzurri’s captain was not expected to sign a new deal with the club before the start of next season, meaning he would enter the final year of his contract this summer.

Handanovic’s agent Fali Ramadani, who replaced Federico Pastorello in 2017, could still open talks with Inter over a contract extension in the early stages of next season.

Inter would consider offering the 36-year-old a one-year extension to his current deal (which would tie Handanovic down until 2023), perhaps with a slightly reduced salary.

The Nerazzurri are thought to be prioritising contract extensions for other players at first, such as Lautaro Martinez and Alessandro Bastoni.

Stefan de Vrij, Nicolo Barella and Danilo D’Ambrosio (who is out of contract in the summer) are also expected to receive new deals in the coming weeks and months.

Handanovic earns €3.6 million annually at Inter and the club believe that is enough for a goalkeeper of his calibre and age.
