Zinho Vanheusden’s hopes of returning to Inter next season will depend on his physical condition, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As per Gazzetta.it, Inter have the option to re-sign their former academy defender from Standard Liege for €16 million in the summer, following his €11.6 move to Belgium in 2019.

Inter have full confidence in Vanheusden’s qualities as a centre-back, but the 21-year-old’s persistent injury problems could convince the Nerazzurri to revisit their plans to re-sign him.

Vanheusden ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament for the second time in his career on November 1, but Standard Liege’s medical staff gave him the OK last week to resume training with his teammates soon.

If the defender can give Inter enough encouraging signs regarding his physical condition, he could remain with Antonio Conte and play for the first team next season.

Should Vanheusden continue to have issues with his fitness, Inter could re-sign him and then send him back on loan to Standard Liege for another season.

Vanheusden is an ideal modern defender who would have been useful to Inter in recent seasons, the Milan-based paper suggested, had he not been so plagued by misfortune.
