Roberto Mancini admits he is relieved Antonio Conte didn’t break his record of 17 straight league wins while in charge of Inter.

The Nerazzurri saw their 11-game victory streak brought to an end on Sunday when Conte’s side secured an important 1-1 draw away at Napoli.

Mancini went on a remarkable 17-game run during the 2006-07 season as Inter stormed the Scudetto in Serie A’s first season following the Calciopoli scandal.

“I was hoping he wouldn’t reach my record, he’s already secured the title anyway…” Mancini joked in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport for Tuesday’s print edition.

“I’d have been happy for Conte to get to 16 wins, that way I could keep my record.

“17 wins in a row are a lot, it’s a nice record to have.”

Mancini was asked to compare his title-winning side and the team Conte is taking towards the Scudetto, with Inter currently nine points clear at the top.

“My Inter side was very strong with some great players,” Inter’s former head coach recalled.

“We played from memory, but this team is great as well.”

Inter need a maximum of 12 points from their last seven games to secure the title, but they would need even fewer if AC Milan were to drop any points.

Conte’s side will look to take another stride towards the Scudetto when they visit Spezia tonight.
