Inter’s likely Serie A title triumph would have a particularly sweet taste for five Nerazzurri players, a report in the Italian media argued today.

Tuttosport’s print edition said winning the Scudetto could feel like ‘revenge’ for Samir Handanovic, Andrea Ranocchia, Danilo D’Ambrosio, Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic.

Ranocchia joined Inter in 2011 and was heavily criticised during the first half of his career at the club, being forced to leave twice on loan before returning.

Handanovic arrived back in 2012, meanwhile, and has yet to win a trophy despite rescuing the Nerazzurri on several occasions throughout their more difficult and less successful seasons.

D’Ambrosio, Brozovic and Perisic all joined under Erick Thohir’s ownership and have similar scores to settle with their critics.

All five have played an important role in this season’s charge towards the Scudetto, which the report argued would be ‘a reward for their perseverance’.

Inter are nine points clear of second-placed AC Milan with seven games remaining.
