Inter must be punished along with AC Milan and Juventus for their involvement in Europe’s Super League project, according to Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero.

The Nerazzurri are one of nine clubs to have confirmed their withdrawal from the Super League in the last 24 hours, but the fallout is set to continue for weeks and probably months to come.

Serie A clubs were outraged upon hearing Inter, AC Milan and Juventus’ plans on Sunday and it seems many will be calling for punishment now, despite the project’s collapse.

“I hope there are sanctions,” Sampdoria president Ferrero told Radio Marte today.

“There are competent institutions and I don’t think they’ll let them get away with it.

“We’ve given a really bad image of the Lega Serie A and I want to see how those who’ve been taken for a ride will react now.

“If we throw our weight behind people who have delusions of omnipotence then we won’t go anywhere fast.

“What were they thinking?”

Inter were one of 12 clubs to announce on Sunday that they would become founding members of the Super League, but the plans were met with widespread condemnation from the footballing community.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid have all joined the Nerazzurri in pulling out, while Juventus have also effectively conceded defeat.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are the only two clubs yet to confirm their intentions.
