Torino president Urbano Cairo has attacked Inter, AC Milan and Juventus for turning their backs on Serie A with their Super League plans.

Inter confirmed earlier today that they had withdrawn from the new franchise, following a mass exodus from the Premier League’s six clubs last night.

The plans to create a Super League were received very badly by Serie A’s other 17 clubs, and now Cairo has made his feelings clear in an interview today.

“Juventus, Inter and AC Milan were only thinking about their own interests,” Cairo told Corriere della Sera (via FcInterNews.it), in an interview which was published today but was conducted before everything fell apart last night.

“It’s an assault on the collective interest.

“These three clubs are only thinking about their own economic health without worrying about the others, who are paying salaries, working hard, planning and struggling.

“They’ve disregarded the interests of everyone else without any sense of responsibility.

“They’ve disrespected us after the Lega Serie A tried to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic in a very difficult moment.”

Inter were supposed to take part in the Super League with 11 other founding members, as per the clubs’ announcements on Sunday.

Along with AC Milan and Juventus, the project also involved Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Andrea Agnelli confirmed earlier that the Super League cannot progress as things stand, while insisting that he remained convinced of the ‘beauty’ of the project.
