Inter moved one point closer to securing the Serie A title last night without even playing, as explained by a report in the Italian media.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition noted that Atalanta’s 1-1 draw at Roma meant the Nerazzurri now only needed eight points to wrap up the scudetto.

Inter are guaranteed to become champions if they reach 84 points, a total that only AC Milan can now reach (and they would lose out on the head-to-head record in that instance).

Antonio Conte’s side could celebrate the title as early as May 1, when they visit Crotone, although it would require Juventus, AC Milan and Atalanta to all drop points in their respective matches this weekend.

Inter have six games to pick up the eight points they need and their first opportunity will come on Sunday, when they welcome Hellas Verona to San Siro.

The Nerazzurri will be eager to get back to winning ways after back-to-back draws against Napoli and Spezia.
