Inter have the opportunity to enjoy extended success in Italian and European football if President Steven Zhang is able to secure funding this summer, according to agent Alessandro Canovi.

Nerazzurri owners Suning are looking to obtain a loan or find a minority partner as they battle financial turmoil, with discussions with interested parties ongoing since the turn of the year.

In an interview with Tuttomercatoweb.com, agent Canovi assessed Inter’s chances of building a long-term project, as the Nerazzurri sit top of the Serie A table and close in on the Scudetto.

“Zhang said he is seeking new funding. If Inter find it, they would have every chance of continuing their journey and building a cycle of success,” Canovi declared.

Canovi, who has represented Italian internationals including Thiago Motta and Alessandro Nesta, also offered his take on the European Super League in which Inter were involved in last week.

The breakaway competition saw the Nerazzurri joined by AC Milan and Juventus, as well as six clubs in England and three in Spain, before widespread backlash scuppered plans.

“The Super League would have been indicative of the times we live in. The economic need is understandable, some clubs are suffering.

“In sporting terms, however, meritocracy would have been lacking. If you lose and there are no consequences, it makes no sense on a sporting level. In football there are spectators and fans. This league was more for spectators,” he added.

“I think there will be talk about reforms, but not of this project. If French and German football clubs do not join, it means that there is something wrong with the idea.

“French football is not just PSG, there are big teams like Marseille, Lyon and Monaco. And then if a nation like Germany doesn’t follow, there is little chance,” Canovi added.
