Despite formally announcing their intention to withdraw from the highly contentious European Super League last week, Inter remain part of a consortium for the project.

As reported by Corriere della Sera, whilst the Super League proposal collapsed and Inter joined the majority of other clubs in abandoning it, they continue to be represented in the Spain-based European SuperLeague Company SL, with President Steven Zhang a board member.

Premier League clubs Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur all pulled out initially, whilst Inter were joined by Atletico Madrid and AC Milan in leaving.

However, it is suggested that all 12 clubs have remained in the company for fear of being hit by legal action by Real Madrid President and key Super League backer Florentino Perez.

Real Madrid, Juventus, and Barcelona have all remained in the project and there is a sense that by remaining as part of the consortium, the other clubs may enjoy greater protection from being sued.

Perez is thought to be considering taking action against the English clubs for leading the abandonment and Inter are looking to stay out of the firing line.

Meanwhile, a legal case may yet be brought against UEFA via the consortium after the collapse of the Super League, with Perez in particular arguing that it represents a monopoly on European football.
