Inter will not be allowed to play in Serie A if they join another breakaway league in the future, as explained by a report in Italy today.

Gazzetta dello Sport‘s online edition confirmed the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) had passed new legislation to prevent teams joining competitions such as the European Super League.

Article 16 of the FIGC’s normative rules now stipulates that teams will be forbidden from playing in Serie A if they play in competitions which aren’t recognised by FIFA, UEFA or the FIGC.

The law was passed unanimously at today’s federal council meeting, with Inter’s chief executive Beppe Marotta also voting in favour.

Inter were one of 12 clubs who signed up for the European Super League last weekend, only for the project to collapse in spectacular fashion within three days.

The Nerazzurri officially confirmed their withdrawal on Wednesday along with eight other clubs, leaving only Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona still in the original agreement.
